HMO members: urgent care and referrals
HMO plans route most care through your primary care physician, but urgent care is usually handled differently. If you’re not sure whether your AmeriHealth plan needs a referral for urgent care, call (908) 363-0378 before you come — we’ll check for you. We also verify your eligibility electronically at the front desk.
What you’ll pay
Most AmeriHealth plans charge a set urgent care copay; plans with a deductible apply the visit there first. Medically needed X-rays and lab work done during your visit are billed on the same claim, and the total is typically far below the cost of an emergency room visit for the same problem.
What you can walk in for
- Illness: strep throat, flu, COVID, sinus and ear infections, UTIs, pink eye and rashes
- Injury: sprains, suspected fractures with on-site X-ray, cuts that need stitches and minor burns
- Testing: rapid strep (5–10 minutes), flu and COVID (about 15 minutes), urinalysis, EKG and lab work
- Prevention and forms: flu shots and Tdap, sports and school physicals, and work or school notes
What to bring
- Your insurance card (front and back) and a photo ID
- A list of your medications and allergies
- Any school, sports or work form you need completed
