When Gillette residents come to Sage

Most of our Gillette patients walk in for one of these reasons:

Gillette neighborhoods and landmarks we serve

Sage sees Gillette residents from across the village — homes along Mountain Avenue, Valley Road, Long Hill Road, and the residential streets near Passaic River Park. Long Hill Township's overall low-density, leafy character means many properties back up to wooded areas, which translates to a year-round volume of tick bites, poison ivy rashes, and outdoor injuries we evaluate.

Schools and student athletes from Gillette

Sage sees student athletes from Watchung Hills Regional High School (which serves all of Long Hill Township), Central Middle School, and Gillette School. We also see athletes from area private schools including Oak Knoll, Pingry, and Newark Academy. NJSIAA sports physicals are $50 with same-visit form completion. We complete the standard NJ Department of Education athletic form along with the cardiac history form required by NJSIAA.

Insurance for Gillette residents

Sage Urgent Care accepts most major insurance plans used by Gillette residents — Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield Horizon NJ, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, and many others. Self-pay rates are available for uninsured patients: most visits run $150–$200, sports physicals are $50, DOT physicals are $90–$120. See our full accepted insurance list.

What to expect on the drive from Gillette

From Gillette center along Valley Road, head east toward Stirling and Berkeley Heights. The route takes you past the Gillette train station on the Gladstone Branch and the Long Hill Township municipal building. Once you cross into Berkeley Heights, follow Mountain Avenue south to Springfield Avenue. Sage Urgent Care sits on the right side at 369 Springfield Avenue — recognizable by the green awning and sage leaf logo. The full drive is typically 10 to 12 minutes outside of school commute hours.

If you're coming during morning rush (7:30–9 AM) or afternoon school pickup (3–4 PM), add about 5 minutes for traffic near Watchung Hills Regional High School. Parking is free and on-site, with handicap spaces near the entrance.

What Gillette families typically come in for

Gillette is part of Long Hill Township, a small wooded community of about 13,500 residents across Gillette, Stirling, and Millington. Many of our Gillette patients are families with school-age children — Long Hill schools have about 1,700 students between the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The most common reasons Gillette parents bring their kids to us:

  • Sports injuries from Watchung Hills Regional athletics — ankle sprains, finger jams, and concussion evaluations during fall football and spring lacrosse seasons.
  • Strep throat and ear infections — the elementary schools see seasonal waves we usually pick up about a week later in our walk-in volume.
  • Tick bites — Long Hill's wooded terrain and proximity to Watchung Reservation mean we see tick bite consultations from May through September.
  • Sports physicals before tryouts — we time appointments around Watchung Hills Regional's August and February clearance deadlines.

Closer than Morristown or Summit ER

For Gillette residents, Sage Urgent Care is geographically the closest walk-in option for non-emergency care. Morristown Medical Center's ER is about 9 miles away with frequent waits over an hour for non-critical issues. Overlook Medical Center in Summit is 5 miles but the ER routinely sees waits of 2+ hours. Sage is 4.5 miles via Valley Road and Mountain Avenue, with most patients in and out in under an hour including imaging.

For genuine emergencies — chest pain with shortness of breath, severe allergic reactions, stroke symptoms, head injury with loss of consciousness, or major trauma — go to Morristown or Overlook ER directly. For everything else, we're a faster and far less expensive option.
