Meryl began her career in the emergency department. She spent her first years as an emergency medicine provider at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia — two high-acuity metropolitan emergency departments — caring for patients across the full lifespan, from routine complaints to critically ill presentations, and taking part in every stage of a visit from history and examination through diagnostics, procedures, and treatment.

She moved from there into high-volume walk-in care, including a stretch as the solo provider in a busy Philadelphia urgent care seeing roughly sixty patients across a twelve-hour shift, and more recently in a large urgent care group treating patients from infancy through old age. That volume builds one skill above all others, and it is the one walk-in medicine depends on: recognizing quickly which patient in a full waiting room is the one who cannot wait.

Meryl is procedurally strong — laceration repair, incision and drainage, splinting and casting, ultrasound-guided IV access, joint aspiration, and point-of-care testing. She also spent nearly three years in an ambulatory surgical center, first-assisting in the operating room and managing post-operative wound care and scar revision. For a parent whose child has just split a chin open, that surgical closure background is the difference between a wound that is closed and one that is closed well.

She has precepted medical, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant students, and has taught suturing skills labs and ultrasound-guided IV technique at regional emergency medicine conferences. At Sage she practices alongside the two board-certified emergency physicians who own the practice.
